BOSEbuild Sound App Privacy Policy

BOSEbuild Sound App Privacy Policy

Ensuring that you understand what information Bose Corporation collects about you, how we use and share this information, and the steps you may take to limit such use or sharing, is fundamental to our respect for our customers and the users of our mobile apps.

This Privacy Policy is specific to the BOSEbuild Sound App (the “app”).  It does not apply to other Bose apps, the Bose.com website, or other Bose websites, including our country-specific sites.  Each of those other apps and websites has its own privacy policy, many of which can be accessed through the main Bose website. This policy also does not apply to the BOSEbuild e-commerce or support websites.

Bose does not collect any information through the app that we can use to personally identify you, such as your name, email address, or telephone number.  As discussed below, however, the app does automatically collect certain information from your mobile device for analytics purposes.  The collection, use, and sharing of such information is subject to this Privacy Policy.

Our collection and use of information

Personal information.  Bose does not collect any information through the app that we can use to identify you personally.  Users do not create accounts or supply any login information.  And although the app permits users to record sounds using their device microphone, the recordings are stored locally on the device and cannot be accessed by Bose.

Analytics via log data, cookies, web beacons, and other tracking mechanisms.  When you use the app, it automatically receives and records certain information from your mobile device that we and our partners use solely for analytics purposes.  This may include such data as your IP address and domain name, your software and hardware attributes (including device IDs), your Internet service provider, information about how you use the app during your current session and over time, the functions and features that you use in the app, the date and time that you use the app, and a variety of other information.  To do this, we or our analytics partners may use a variety of technologies, including log files, cookies, pixel tags (or web beacons), scripts, or other tracking mechanisms that recognize your mobile device and gather information about its online activity.

Cookies are small files that are stored on your mobile device.  A cookie can allow an online service to recognize your mobile device and to obtain certain information about that device and how you use it.  A pixel tag (or web beacon) is a small block of code that usually consists of a single-pixel image.  It can be installed in, or called by, a webpage or app and be used to retrieve information about your mobile device and your use of an app.  The BOSEbuild Sound app also uses tracking mechanisms embedded in software development kits, or SDKs.  Specifically, the app uses Flurry to provide important analytics information.

We use the information that we collect through these tracking mechanisms for analytics purposes, including:

  • To count unique app users and identify trends among users;
  • To analyze how users use the app and various app features;
  • To measure the popularity and effectiveness of different app content and features; and
  • To improve the app and enhance users' experiences.

Sharing of information with third parties

We may partner with certain third parties to collect and analyze the information discussed above.  These third parties may use log files, cookies, pixel tags, or other tracking mechanisms.  Currently, the app uses Flurry for the purposes discussed above.

If you are concerned about having cookies on your mobile device, you can block them by changing your user settings.

And you can opt out of tracking through Flurry by clicking https://dev.flurry.com/secure/optOut.do.  Although the app currently does not respond to “do not track” requests, you can limit tracking by taking the steps above.  Some tracking mechanisms may, however, continue to operate unless you fully delete the app from your device.

In addition, Bose may use other third parties to host and manage the app.  These third parties may collect and/or use your information to assist Bose with respect to the purposes discussed above.

Finally, Bose may use or share your information with third parties:

  • To respond to subpoenas, court orders, or legal process, or to establish, protect, or exercise our legal rights or defend against legal claims;
  • When we believe it is necessary in order to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding illegal activities, suspected fraud, situations involving potential threats to our property or the physical safety of any person, or violations of our terms and conditions;
  • As otherwise permitted or required by applicable law.

Children's Privacy

The BOSEbuild app contains activities for adults and children of all ages.  The app does not collect any personally identifiable information from users.  Although the app does collect and track certain device-specific data as described above, any persistent identifiers are used only for the internal operation of the app.  Further, all of this information is used and shared only as described above, and the app does not permit visitors of any age to publicly disclose information about themselves.  Nonetheless, any parent or guardian who believes that personal information from his or her child was collected by Bose (either through the app, through a Bose website, or otherwise) may review such information, have such information deleted, and/or refuse to permit further collection or use of the child's information.  To do so, please contact Bose Corporation by mail at:
